Abstract/Summary:
Four teachers take 21 middle school students to Belize on the adventure of a lifetime. The goal of this research was to understand the roles enacted by the teacher chaperones and their motivations for organizing and attending the trip. This study found that the teacher chaperones were motivated to attend for both personal and professional reasons. The roles the teacher chaperones took on were both instructional and para-instructional in nature. In addition to describing these roles, this study offers suggestions and recommendation for teachers intending to take future study trips.
