Abstract/Summary:
A Postprocessor is an interface tool between Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) systems and Numerically Controlled (NC) machines. This link is responsible for joining two very different technologies and also serves to compensate for weaknesses on either end. It responds to the unique requirements and limitations of the CAM systems, NC machine and manufacturing environment. This thesis presents the development and implementation of a postprocessor, which converts APT source codes generated from CATIA to a machine code format. It also discusses the methodology of the source generation and communication of the postprocessed machine code to a CNC milling machine interfaced in a Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) system.
