Abstract/Summary: | |
The Reforest Rochester Project discusses the development of guidelines for a City-wide Street Tree Master Plan for the City of Rochester, New York, and is broken into three phases: Other Municipalities, City of Rochester Department Review and Master Plan Guidelines and Tree Palettes. This project is the result of a devastating ice storm which severely damaged area trees. Procedures and methods utilized by other municipalities in planning and managing their urban forests is reviewed in Phase 1. Phase 2 reviews how the different departments within City government address Rochester's urban forest. Phase 3 outlines guidelines for development of a Street Tree Master Plan and verbally and graphically describes tree species recommended for street tree planting. This project is a result of a marriage between urban forestry and urban planning--the development of a manageable urban forest where the street tree image is sensitive to community and citizen needs, funding issues and governmental process. |
