| This study looked at the effects that social media have on the idea of self-concept of college students. This was a quantitative study that asked participants to answer a self-assessing survey. Based on the self-assessing answers, participants were grouped into two categories: low self-esteem and high self-esteem. Participants were assigned these to two groups to determine if there were any significance to connect social media use and self-concept. It appears that although the results were not statistically significant, social media does have an impact on a variety of aspects.;Results showed that individuals with lower self-esteem were more likely to use social media as forms of meeting new people. Individuals with lower self-esteem experienced senses of validation and higher self-confidence through social media use. There were also differences when comparing gender to social media use. Males were more likely to use social media as forms of entertainment, meeting new people, dating, and a sense of satisfaction. |
