| The rapid development of science and technology has gradually increased the requirements of society and industry for design talents,and design talents with research thinking have become a hot demand.The long-term traditional learning makes the design students’ research thinking weak,and lacks the enthusiasm for in-depth exploration of things.To improve this situation,new theories and methods need to be introduced in design education.Research study is a theory and method to strengthen students’ active learning,problem analysis,and problem solving skills.It can make up for the gap between the design education and industry needs caused by traditional learning methods.Due to these advantages,research study is widely used in the teaching of other disciplines,but unfortunately we rarely see the application of research study in the design field.Therefore,this article will use product design as an example to explore the impact of research study on the ability of design students.Attitude is one of the important factors affecting learning.Therefore,this article first uses interviews and questionnaires to survey the acceptance of research study from nearly one hundred product design students in terms of attitude and learning motivation.The results showed that the tested students tended to carry out research studies carried out as a team and using language as a medium to cultivate logical thinking ability and explore thinking ability.Based on the above results,and in view of the characteristics of the product design profession,this paper proposes a set of research study based on debate methods.The method is composed of four parts:(1)debate structure;(2)debate planning;(3)debate guidance;(4)debate comment and summary.The purpose of the first part is to frame the choice of the source of the debate and the angle strategy of the argument,so that the method is more posted and the product design professional;the purpose of the second part is to plan the time nodes from the preparation to the completion of the debate and the participants of the debate,so that the method steps are more clear and operable;the purpose ofthe third part is to structure the guidance of teachers before and during the debate,and to show the role of guidance;the fourth part is to guide the direction of reviews and highlight the role of students’ reflection and summary.In the second part of the time planning,design a "3152" strategy for the debate,that is,a 3-minute statement from each side,a 15-minute free debate from both sides,and a 2-minute summary from each side.Finally,in order to verify the effectiveness of this method,this paper takes the "Information Architecture" course of the product design major of Huazhong University of Science and Technology as the target course,and uses Solomon four-group design to verify the experimental results.The experimental results show that under certain circumstances,there is a significant difference between the scores of students who participated in debate learning and those who did not,but this effect is not stable.This may be related to other factors such as the practical form of experimental teaching.Due to the impact of the epidemic,all teaching activities are adjusted to online,which makes it difficult to control all aspects of the debate-based learning,such as the lack of sense of context in the debate and unstable network conditions.In short,the research study based on debate method provides a model that can be used as a reference for expanding research thinking in the design field,improving logical ability,and exploring ability. |
