At present, the world is experiencing the background of a new technological revolution era characterised by intelligence, the education situation is being modernised to varying degrees, primary and secondary education is no longer one-way indoctrination, and school buildings and learning spaces are undergoing profound changes. In order to promote the quality of all people, the government and the education sector are actively promoting the construction of a digital, personalised and lifelong education system and building a learning-centred society in order to cultivate talents with an innovative spirit.Among the future learning spaces in primary and secondary school buildings, informal learning spaces have become one of the key areas of focus in order to enhance students’ informal learning abilities and all-round development. In this paper,we will study the physical space in the new era of primary and secondary school education practice, and adopt a comprehensive interdisciplinary analysis approach in the fields of education and architecture to explore in depth the design of informal learning spaces adapted to the future educational and teaching needs of primary and secondary schools, with the aim of creating good physical conditions for the promotion of informal learning behaviour. This paper first provides a preliminary theoretical framework for the correlation between education and spatial development.By analyzing the curriculum and teaching methods of each developmental stage and comparing them with the corresponding characteristics of teaching space design, the article clarifies the development trend of future educational and teaching space organization forms. At the same time, the article parses the content of pedagogical theories describing the internal causes of informal learning, clarifies the characteristics of different types of informal learning behaviors, puts forward the corresponding spatial needs, and accordingly proposes the types of informal learning spaces.Next, this paper analyses the practice of informal learning spaces in primary and secondary schools, and conducts a survey and research on the practical application of existing informal learning spaces in China, but due to force majeure constraints such as the epidemic and campus management,it is not possible to conduct sufficiently detailed and effective research and analysis. Therefore, new school design practices with typical characteristics of informal learning spaces at home and abroad are selected for analysis, and the way informal learning behaviours are carried out in teaching spaces and informal learning space organisation and design practices are summarised, and in combination with the current problems, several levels of spatial organisation, spatial function, spatial form, spatial elements, spatial boundaries, spatial flow, spatial environment and spatial quality are The design objectives of informal learning spaces in primary and secondary schools for future education are proposed. Finally, this paper identifies and analyses the problems from informal learning and spatial functional needs, proposes three major strategies based on different morphological and location attributes: supplementary and complementary design, open and roaming design, and natural/playful and functional/textbook design, explores the main points of the corresponding functional module design, and discusses the organisation and boundary treatment of functional modules, and proposes a strategy for the formation of spatial integration. At the same time, taking Nanchang Wanda School as an example, the spatial module is placed in a specific spatial scheme planning for empirical investigation, and the aforementioned design techniques and strategies are applied to transform the public space outside its formal teaching unit and give it the function of an informal learning space,in order to summarise the practical value of the research and further clarify the practical significance of the research results.
