Research On The Current Status Of Job Stress Of Construction Project Management Personnel In China

High level of job stress has a serious negative influence on many aspects,such as psychology,physiology and so on.The construction industry is an industry with high level of stress,and the healthy psychological and physiological condition of project management personnel has an important impact on the successful delivery of the project.Due to the complexity of modern construction projects,a large number of participants,tight schedule and other characteristics,project management personnel bear a lot of stresses,and there may be changes in the project overall implementation process.However,there is no research on the change of job stress of project management personnel in the process of project overall implementation in China and western countries.In this article,from the perspective of project overall implementation process,five main research objectives are set up:(1)identifying the critical job stressors of project management personnel;(2)evaluating the influence of project management personnel’s job stress;(3)exploring the changes of job stress of project management personnel in the project overall implementation process;(4)based on different demographic variables(gender,age,working years,and position),analyzing the differences of job stressors of project management personnel;(5)develop the relationship model between critical job stressors of project management personnel and the influence of job stress.This article is divided into six sections.The first chapter is the introduction.This section introduces the background of the Chinese construction industry,summarizes the research status of job stress,puts forward the research objectives and significance of this article,and determines the research methods and research flowchart of this article.The second chapter is the related theory of project management personnel’s job stress.This section introduces the definition of the project overall implementation process,analyzes the job responsibilities of different types of project management personnel,and expounds the job stress in the project overall implementation process.The third chapter is the related theory of job stress.This section identifies the job stressor,analyzes the influence of job stress and the relevant theory of JDCS model.The fourth chapter is the process of empirical research on the current status of project management personnel’s job stress.This section introduces the basic process of the questionnaire survey,including the selection of the respondents,the design of the questionnaire,the data analysis tools and methods,and the overall process of the interview,including the design and implementation of the interview.The fifth chapter is the result of the empirical analysis of the current status of the job stress of project management personnel.Using Spss22.0 software,this section conducts descriptive statistical analysis,independent sample t-test,ANOVA(one-way ANOVA),factor analysis,correlation analysis and stepwise regression analysis.The results of quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis are verified each other.The sixth chapter is the conclusion and future research directions.It summarizes the research results of this article,and puts forward the research limitations and future research directions.Under the influence of Covid-19 and other factors,a total of 114 questionnaires were collected,of which 100 were valid(valid rate is 87.7%).Likert 7-point scale was used to evaluate the job stressor and the influence of job stress.Based on the analysis of questionnaire survey and interview,the results are as follows:(1)The critical job stressors of project management personnel in China are high job demand(4.97)and low job control(4.27).(2)The project management personnel are under a general level of job stress influence in China(3.62).Further analysis on the high stress group shows that male department / discipline head aged 31-40 is under a high level of influence.(3)In project overall implementation process,most of the project management personnel(36.1%)have the greatest job stress in the bidding stage,followed by the commencement stage(26.4%)and the construction stage(19.4%).(4)There are significant differences in job stressors and the influence of job stress among the project management personnel with different gender,age and years of working experience.There are also significant differences between the two types of personnel involving and non-involving in construction project overall implementation process in terms of the job stressor and the influence of job stress.Among them,the project management personnel involving in construction project overall implementation process bear high job demand stressor(4.97),have high level of autonomy to control their own work(4.27),and are easier to get job support(3.30).(5)Through exploratory factor analysis,24 indicators are reduced to four critical job stressors,including job demand,colleague support,job control and superior support.Based on factor analysis and correlation analysis,it is found that there is a linear relationship between the critical job stressors and the influence of job stress.This study enriches the theoretical research of job stress,identifies the critical stressors of project management personnel in China,analyzes differences of job stressors of project management personnel with different characteristics,explores the changes of project management personnel’s job stress in different stages of project overall implementation process,and reveals the status of project management personnel’s job stress.The findings can provide a valuable theoretical reference for developing job stress coping strategies in the project overall implementation process.
