Due to the characteristics of modern engineering projects, such as large investment, tight construction period, high demands, complex technology and far-reaching influence, the project management personnel are facing the higher job stress level in construction industry.Their workload is various at different stages of the project, and their responsibilities change as their working years grow. However, there is a lack of research on the difference and change of job stress.Based on the literature review, this paper sets up four main research objectives for project management personnel in Chinese construction industry:(1)To analyze the differences of job stressors among different types of project management personnel in Chinese construction industry(e.g.,gender,age,education background,etc.);(2)To analyze the differences of job stress levels of different types of project management personnel in Chinese construction industry;(3)To explore the changing rules of job stressors for project management personnel in Chinese construction industry;(4)To explore the change rules of the job stress level of project management personnel in Chinese construction industry. This paper is divided into five parts. The first chapter is the introduction, which introduces the industry background and theoretical background, puts forward the research objectives, and determines the research methods and technical routes. The second chapter is the basic theory of job stress of project management personnel, which defines the stages of project management and the scope of project management personnel in the construction industry, analyzes the connotation of job stress, identifies the job stressors and demographic variables commonly used in the study of job stress differences, and summarizes the job stress of project management personnel. The third chapter introduces the basic process of questionnaire survey and interview empirical research, including questionnaire pre-survey,questionnaire distribution, questionnaire recovery and interview. The fourth chapter conducts statistical analysis of the questionnaire data with the help of SPSS 25.0 software, and the relevant questionnaire analysis conclusions were verified and supplemented through the interview results. The fifth chapter summarizes the research conclusions, and puts forward the research deficiency and prospect.A total of 212 questionnaires were collected in this study,of which 191 were valid. The results of the research based on questionnaires and interviews show that:(1)In terms of job stressors, there are significant differences in “career development stressor” among project management personnel with different ages, working years, marital status, educational background and positions; There are significant differences in“organizational structure stressor” among project management personnel with different marital status, educational background and types of work unit. There are significant differences in the “stressor of work overload” among project management personnel with different marital status.(2)As for the difference of job stress level, the subjective job stress level of male project management personnel(3.32)is significantly higher than that of female project management personnel(2.97).There is no significant difference among other types of project management personnel..(3)All kinds of job stressors of project management personnel fluctuate with their working years. But “high-demand stressor”,“organizational structure stressor”,and “career development stressor” are the key job stressors shared by the project management personnel of all working years in the owner’s unit;“Work overload stressor”,“organizational structure stressor”,and “career development stressor” are the key job stressors shared by project management personnel of all working years in the construction general contractor;“Work overload stressor” and “high-demand stressor” are the key job stressors shared by project management personnel of all working years in the subcontractors/suppliers.(4)The job stress level of project management personnel also presents a specific changing rule.Project management personnel who have worked in the owner’s unit for 1-5years have the highest job stress level, those who have worked in the construction general contractor for 20-25 years have the highest job stress level, and those who have worked in the subcontractor’s/supplier for 1 year or less have the highest job stress level. In addition, the job stress level of project management personnel in different units is consistent in different stages of the project, that is,the job stress level in the project start-up stage is the highest(3.70),followed by the project completion and acceptance stage(3.66),and the job stress level in the project warranty stage is the lowest(2.88).The research results can provide theoretical reference for different types of project management personnel in the construction industry, and more effective job stress management in different ages or stages of the project.
