Translator’s Subjectivity In Translation Of Fairy Tales From The Perspective Of Reception Theory

Fairy tale plays a significant role during children’s growing up.In recent years,countries have deepened their exchange in cultural area with the rapid development of society,while children,the special readers can acquire a better understanding of western culture and customs by reading translated visions of western fairy tales.According to Reception Theory,every literary work is a kind of unfinished one,and its value can be fully actualized only by understanding and reception of its readers.During fairy tales’translation process,translators should consider the reader’s horizon of expectations and comprehensive ability,give their subjectivity full play,and maintain the original artistic style and aesthetic value because of the special readers.While,due to china’s history background,most translated works of children’s literature are based on adult’s horizon with certain political purpose in which some are translated and written in classical Chinese without considering the level of children’s comprehensive ability,those are not children’s literature translation in a strict sense.Until the May Fourth period,translators realized the value of children’s literature and started to use simple language to translate those works from the needs of children,accept ability and aesthetic angle.In 1950-1970s,a large number of foreign children’s literature work is introduced into our country by translators.Since 1980s,contemporary children’s literature translation steps into the booming period,and we can find Chinese version of various types of work.The importance of translators’ subjectivity in the fairy tale works can also be reflected through constantly developing and progressing translation process.This article analyzes the translators’ subjectivity in the fairy tale translation and how to utilize subjectivity in translation process from the perspective of reception theory,with Ren Rongrong’s Chinese translation version of fairy tales Mary Poppins as an example Through the analysis and research,we can see that,translators’ subjectivity plays an important role in the fairy tale works translation process in aspects of words selection,rhetoric translation and cultural difference management,etc.This article has a certain reference function for fairy tale translation.
