| Jon McGregor is an outstanding British novelist and Reservoir 13 is his fourth output, which was longlisted for the Man Booker Prize 2017 and has raised great concern since its publication. The present report is based on the author’s translation of this novel(Chapters 3&4).Under the guidance of Nord’s "Loyalty Principle",the translator attempts to solve the problems encountered in the process of translating this novel by analyzing the difficulties in translating the environmental descriptions and choosing proper translation strategies accordingly. Before the translation, the author analyzes the source text(ST),using Nord’s "Text Analysis"mode, hoping to find out how much information in ST is associated with the target text(TT),and what translation strategies.the author should choose for the translation.Through the "text analysis",the author finds that there are some relevance in environmental description between the ST and TT.But meanwhile, three difficulties need to be tackled as well, namely:how to manage the sentence differences between English and Chinese in scenery description, how to translate the manners and movements of animals and how to translate season-changing description to make it better render the plot.Guided by "Loyalty Principle",this report divides environmental description into three parts:scenery description, animal description and season changes description, using translation strategies like addition, conversion and division to make the translation more appealing in scenery description, full of vitality in animal description and more rendering in season changes description,on the basis of expressing the author’s intention. |
