Along with social and economic development as well as the constant advancement of globalization, China, as a developing country, has been playing an increasingly significant role in the international community, holding a series of international events in recent years. Interpreting, a tool of cross-cultural communication, is gaining its importance day by day. As a result, the creativity of an interpreter who acts as a bond between cultures and languages has always been valued. The core mission of an interpreter is to achieve the substantive conversion for communication. Based on the framework of Interpretive Theory, the author hopes to deepen its research in the field of interpreting by studying the way of grasping the sense of the source language and reproducing it in the form of the target language.Founded by the French Interpreting Theorist Danica Seleskovitch, Interpretive Theory emphasizes sense at the discourse level. Interpretive Theory advocates that the process of interpreting is to make explanations on the sense of the source language. The essence lies in interpreting the non-linguistic sense instead of linguistic information in discourse. This thesis focuses on analyzing research data based on the famous Triangle Model under Interpretive Theory which includes three stages – comprehension, deverbalization and re-expression. The author selects speeches mainly from the opening presentation of Wang Qishan(chairman of the organizing committee of the Shanghai World Expo Committee), opening presentation of former Premier Wen Jiabao and the speech of welcome banquet from former President Hu Jintao at World Exposition 2010 Shanghai as the research object. The author has analyzed several strategies, which are conversion, explanation, generalization, parsing, simplification and omission adopted in accordance with the framework of Interpretive Theory and make a comparison with languages from addressers and interpreters. In the meantime, three principles for interpreting – principle of faithfulness, principle of sense and principle of promptness should also be followed. Consequently, the above study has contributed to the guiding importance for interpreting practice to some extent. The implication of this study is that with the interpreter's cognitive complement in the process of deverbalization, the Triangle Model can play a direct guiding role in practical interpreting. Through this way, the interpreter can get a better command of the process of interpreting.
