A Report On C-E Translation Of Manual For International Students Of Shandong University Of Finance And Economics

Manual for International Students of Shandong University of Finance and Economics(hereinafter referred to as the Manual)covers the code of conduct in its main body that international students should abide by,which is an informative text.Meanwhile,there are many rules and regulations of the university with instructive features.In order to clearly convey the textual information and help the international students have a better understanding of the Manual,the author was commissioned by the International Student Office to translate the Chinese version into English.This report is divided into five parts.The first one is task description,detailing the background and characteristics of the text.The second part is translation processes,which includes the pre-translation preparations made by the author,the translation process to solve various problems,proofreading and reflection.The third part is the theoretical framework,which contains Newmark’s Text Theory,his two vital translation strategies and the application of semantic translation and communicative translation.The fourth part extracts some cases and discusses the methods such as conversion,restructuring,sequential translation and shift of perspective.The fifth part is summary,which analyzes the shortages of the translation,the experience and lessons learned by the author,summarizes the guiding role of Newmark’s Text Theory in Chinese-English translation,and discusses the practical significance and value of this report.
