| With the rapid development of computer technology,machine translation has been widely used.Despite its great advantages,machine translation cannot ensure a balance between quality and efficiency and is prone to translation errors.Peter Newmark proposed the methods of communicative and semantic translation,and pointed out that only the two methods fulfil the main aims of translation,namely accuracy and economy.The efficiency of the message delivery is crucial to the achievement of the communicative purpose.Under the guidance of communicative translation and semantic translation,this paper analyzes and concludes the types of errors in machine translation from lexical,syntactic and textual perspectives,and proposes post-editing techniques based on the case study on PULSE Instruction Manual.From the lexical perspective,the errors in machine translation include wrong selection of lexical meanings for abbreviations,homonyms,polysemes and semi-technical terms.Under the guidance of semantic translation,clarifying the common features and logical relationship between the word and other components of the sentence,techniques such as addition and annotation can be adopted to correct the above errors.In addition,ambiguity of the reference of pronouns and abstract nouns is another error.Under the guidance of communicative translation,techniques such as shift can be adopted to reproduce the referents of pronouns and narrow the reference scope abstract nouns.In terms of sentence structure,machine produces some translated texts with improper word order,wrong logic,and inflexible voice conversion.From the perspective of communicative translation,the context,grammatical structure,and differences in expression between source language and target language can be taken into consideration in post-editing.At the textual level,the errors in machine translation include improper writing style and lack of coherence.Under the guidance of communicative translation,the translator can adjust the writing style according to the expression habits of target language,and make the translation smooth and fluent by adding connecting words and changing the order of words.This paper aims at summarizing the author’s theoretical and practical experience in using MTPE in translation,so as to improve the translation quality and enhance the ability of postediting under the guidance of communicative translation and semantic translation.Moreover,it is expected to provide inspiration for the application of MTPE in the fields of mechanical translation. |
