| Listening and speaking ability training is the core task of English teaching in primary school.And these years in China,oral English teaching is gradually paid more attention to.However,for a long time,the phenomenon of valuing reading and writing,neglecting listening and speaking is still common.Especially in rural areas,there are many problems in oral English teaching and most of the students in primary schools are unable to meet the requirements of the New Curriculum Standard(2011)on students’ oral English ability.In order to learn the present situation of oral English teaching in rural primary schools,the author takes the teachers and students of three primary schools in a certain area of Jilin Province as the research object,and adopts the methods of questionnaire survey,classroom observation and interview,and explore the following two research questions:1.What are the main problems in oral English teaching in rural primary schools?2.What are the main reasons for the problems in oral English teaching in rural primary schools?The results of this study shows that: 1)at present,oral English teaching in rural primary schools has improved on teachers’ quality and teaching media,but the overall situation is still not optimistic;2)there are many problems in oral English teaching in rural primary schools.Firstly,in terms of English input,the total amount of students’ English input is insufficient,lack of comprehensible input,lack of interest and relevance in English teaching,and grammar programming teaching results in the teaching rigid and boring;secondly,in terms of English output,the total amount of students’ oral English output is insufficient,the ability of oral expression is poor,the accuracy and fluency of oral expression is poor,the psychological burden of students on oral expression is serious,anxiety and lack of confidence;finally,the environment of oral English teaching is not ideal,such as: limited teaching equipment,restrictions of primary school environment;3)in rural primary schools,there are many reasons for the problems of oral English teaching,such as the uneven professional quality of teachers and students,the poor attitude of teachers and students towards oral English practice,the improper and single teaching and learning methods of teachers and students,the serious shortage of teaching time occupied by oral English practice,the limited and ineffective teaching and learning strategies of teachers and students,etc.According to the correlation analysis,the current situation of oral English teaching in rural primary schools badly needs to be improved.Therefore,the study proposed some implications for teaching and learning: 1)to improve the professional quality of school English teachers;2)to enhance the interestingness and diversity of oral English activities;3)to enrich and optimize English classroom teaching methods;4)to design various and interesting homework after class;5)to establish the evaluation and feedback mechanism on oral English for students;6)to strengthen the teaching reflection behavior of English teachers. |
