A Survey On High School English Assignment In Changsha Area

Abstract/Summary:
As the extension of English classroom teaching,English assignment is the supplement and feedback of classroom teaching,which can not only promote students’ development,but also consolidate their learning.In addition,the situation of assignment can also reflect students’ learning style,effect,habits and so on.However,in the research on English teaching,it is difficult to find the investigation on assignment,and more attention is paid to teaching strategies,teaching methods and other aspects,so the importance of assignment is easily ignored.This paper attempts to investigate the current situation of English assignment in high school,to observe the current situation of English assignment in all aspects,hoping to get some enlightenment and implication and provide some feasible suggestions and measures on English teaching in high school from the perspective of assignment.This paper mainly adopts the method of questionnaire survey,supplemented by interview.The questionnaire survey was conducted among 200 students and 40 teachers in Changsha,and 5 parents and 5 teachers were interviewed.The questionnaire used in the survey mainly refers to the dimensions of assignment proposed by Ren Baogui(2011).And the study of current situation of English assignment in high school is conducted from five dimensions: attitude towards assignment,time of assignment,design of assignment,correction of assignment and content of assignment.This study aims to solve two problems:(1)What is the current situation of assignment in high school English?(2)What leads to the current situation of assignment in high school English?By using SPSS software for statistical analysis of the questionnaire data,the research results show that due to the restriction of some policies and rules,stiffstereotype,and personal problems,there are some problems in English assignment in high schools in Changsha at present,including restricted English assignment time;English assignment is designed in a single way;the method of correction is too centralized;the types and contents of the assignments are lack of changes and new ideas;unreasonable utilization of teaching resources and so on.Based on the above findings,the author puts forward four suggestions for reference,including compressing the assignment and encouraging interdisciplinary learning;involving students in assignment design and meeting individual differences;giving positive comments and enriching the way of correction;modifying the content and exploring resources wisely...
