| The petrochemical industry plays an important role in the national economy,ensuring the supply of energy resources and promoting the development of the economy.Therefore,the translation of petrochemical texts is of vital importance in increasingly frequent international communications.The text of translation practice is selected from the sixth chapter of Petrochemical Engineering Technology published by China Petrochemical Press in2020.The sixth chapter of the source text introduces some petrochemical processes,including production,development and design.Through the analysis of the source text,the translator finds that the petrochemical text is both informative and expressive,and has its characteristics in terms of vocabulary,syntax and text,which are mainly reflected in the presence of a large number of professional nouns,frequent use of non-subject sentences,run-on sentences and complex sentences,as well as the insertion of a large number of numbers and formulas,so it poses a challenge to the translator.Under the guidance of the text typology,this report analyzes specific cases from lexical,syntactic and textual levels.At the lexical level,it puts forward the extended translation and concrete translation of vague concepts of proper nouns and terms,the literal translation and zero translation of abbreviations and category words.At the syntactic level,some translation methods are proposed,such as the segmentation and adjustment of run-on sentences,and the addition of subject and voice conversion to non-subject sentences.At the textual level,it pays attention to the logical connection within the text and the cohesive devices outside the text to make the context more coherent.It is also hoped that this report can provide a reference for translators engaged in relevant industries. |
