An Approach To Li Weirong’s Translation Of The Travel Diaries Of Xu Xiake From The Perspective Of Translation Aesthetics

The Travel Diaries of Xu Xiake is a kind of diary prose,narrating from Xu Xiake’s perspective,which describes gorgeous landscapes that embody the aesthetic characteristics.The descriptions fully demonstrate Xu Xiake’s love of mountains and rivers,and the different tone of the narration indicates the identity of the characters participating in the dialogues.The description of geographic direction in the Travel Diaries of Xu Xiake reduces the confusion of the general readers about specific locations in reading,as if they were following the author.In recent years,many individuals have been conducted with the translation aesthetics,but no one has analyzed Li Weirong’s translation of the Travel Diaries of Xu Xiake from the perspective of aesthetic representation.The translation aesthetics studies the aesthetic representation from the aesthetic object to the aesthetic subject,which is based on the “optimal” consideration of the aesthetic object of the translator or reader as the subject.Based on the translation aesthetics,the author of this thesis uses Li Weirong’s translation of the Travel Diaries of Xu Xiake to analyze how the translator represents the beauty of words,sentences,and texts in translation.This thesis also points out the strategies and means of aesthetic representation,which have significant and practical value of the translation for specific practices.Because the author reads a large number of references and specific analysis of the English translation,the following conclusions are drawn:At the lexical level,the translator uses phonological compensation to represent the artistic and visual beauty of repetitions,associative words(It means a kind of word in Chinese which has the same part),onomatopoeias,and verbs in the translation;at the sentence level,the translator exerts alliteration and amplification to represent the beauty of the images and phonology in special sentence patterns and rhetoric methods such as metaphorical sentences,hyperbolic sentences and parallel sentences in the translation;at the text level,the translator employs amplification strategies and part-of-speech conversion skills.On the whole,the utility of the translation skills and strategies represent the beauty of rationality and emotion in the original text.It is demonstrated that the translator employs the strategies and methods of amplification in the analysis of Li Weirong’s translation of The Travel Diaries of Xu Xiake,,part-of-speech conversion and phonological compensation to represent the aesthetic value in The Travel Diaries of Xu Xiake.It has some referential significance and value for the translation practice of other translators,which is beneficial to improving the quality of translation.In the past,the aesthetic representation of translation was based on the study of formal systems and non-formal systems.This thesis is based on the analysis of words,sentences,and texts.To some extent,it makes up for the lack of the analysis at the text level and broadens the breadth from analysis of aesthetic representation.
