A Project Report On The E-C Translation Of The Excerpts Of Society Without God

Society without God,a sociological book,aims to study the secularization in Scandinavian society.The author of the book,Phil Zuckerman,firstly presents some interviews with some typical interviewees accurately,and then gradually analyzes the causes and possibilities of the phenomenon from the perspective of sociology.The book is full of examples and presents reasonable analysis,which not only can enrich the research on secularization at home and abroad,but also can deep readers’ understanding of the secularization of Scandinavian society.The author of this report had the honor to participate in the translation project and was responsible for the translation of chapter two to chapter five.Based on the excerpts of chapter two to chapter five of Society without God,this project report focuses on the problems encountered by the author at the lexical and syntactic levels and their solutions.Based on the features of the source text,the author first summarizes the difficulties encountered by the translator on lexicon and syntax,and analyzes the causes of the problems.Then,the corresponding translation methods are proposed with some typical examples under the guidance of Text Typology theory and communicative translation strategy Newmark put forward.In terms of the difficulties at the lexical level,the methods of diction,literal translation,addition and annotation are used.In terms of the difficulties at the syntactic level,repetition,reorganization,and classification and combination are adopted.The author hopes that this project report can provide reference for the translation of sociological texts.
