A Multi-dimensional Study Of The Chinese Accompanying Meaning "V Zhe"

This paper focuses on the four words that express the accompanying meaning“Banzhe”(“伴着”),“Suizhe”(“随着”),“Genzhe”(“跟着”)and“Jiezhe”(“接着”),describes the syntactic distribution,semantic functions and pragmatic functions from the synchronic perspective,as well as analyzes their universalities and individualities.At the same time,this paper further investigates the diachronic evolution of“V zhe”(“V着”)and also explores the motivation and mechanisms of the evolution of this kind of words.The paper consists of the following six chapters.The first chapter is the Introduction,which reviews and comments the current research status of “X zhe”(“X着”).This chapter briefly illustrates the theoretical basis and research methods,and make an introduction to the source of corpus in this paper.The second chapter aims at the syntactic analysis of the accompanying meaning“V zhe”,and makes a detailed explanation of the syntactic distribution of “V zhe” and their respective function distribution.In terms of syntactic distribution,“V zhe” acts as predicate component,introduction component,adverbial component and extra sentence component;in terms of function distribution,through the corpus retrieval and data statistics,it is found that the accompanying meaning “V zhe” have prominent syntactic distribution of lexical and advantageous features,although they have many lexical and grammatical functions.The third chapter analyzes the semantic function of the accompanying meaning“V zhe”,which could be divided into expressing actions,introducing basis,modifying description and post temporal order.The semantic function of the member of the accompanying meaning “V zhe” involves many semantic categories.At the same time,different semantic functions are related to each other and have different emphases.Chapter four discusses the textual pragmatic functions of the accompanying meaning “V zhe”,which are manifested in the function of textual connection and interpersonal interaction.In terms of the expression of textual connective function,they could be divided into temporal cohesion and logical cohesion.Meanwhile,temporal cohesion could be divided into simultaneous order and post temporal order.The main embodiment of the function of connection is to undertake the above and lead out the following.In terms of the interpersonal interaction function,the accompanying meaning “V zhe” could guide prompt,node marker and turn continuation.The fifth chapter analyzes the motivation and mechanism of evolution of the accompanying meaning “V zhe”,mainly from the three aspects: syntactic and semantic constraints,cognitive mechanisms as well as pragmatic needs.In terms of the restriction of the syntactic and semantic,the prepositions and adverbs “V zhe” is affected by different syntax and semantic.In terms of cognitive mechanism,the accompanying meaning “V zhe” is mainly affected by metaphorical mechanism,reanalysis and analogy.In terms of pragmatic needs,the formation of the accompanying meaning “V zhe” has a close relationship with textual integration mechanism and prosodic restraint effects.The last chapter is the Conclusion,teasing out and summing up the content of the full text,indicating the defects and the direction of future efforts.
