A Report On The Translation Of Flight Operation Manual For Pilots

The rapid development of information technology and globalization has brought new opportunities and challenges to the translation industry.As a consequence,computer-aided translation and machine translation are widely used,which not only innovates the translation process,but also greatly improves the efficiency of translation.However,in spite of the improved translation efficiency,machine translation quality falls short of people?s expectations,post-editing has gradually become a new trend in the language service industry.The translation project report,based on the Chinese-English translation of the advisory circular “Flight Operation Manual for Pilots” No.AC-121-FS-2018-130 issued by the Flight Standards Division of the Civil Aviation Administration of China,aims at analyzing the problems encountered in the new translation mode of machine translation combined with post-editing and the strategies to cope with the problems.The report consists of four parts,of which the case analysis in the third part is the core part.From the perspective of post-editing principles,the author compares the results of machine translation and post-editing,and analyzes the types of errors in machine translation.This report analyzes the types of errors in machine translation from the lexical and syntactic levels.Although machine translation has made great progress in the history of translation,errors still exist in terms,abbreviations,passive voices,conditional sentences and so on.Through this project report,the author hopes to make people realize that although machine translation can improve efficiency to a certain extent,the creative nature of translation determines that machine translation can only be an auxiliary tool,and postediting is of great importance to the quality of translation.
