The process of children’s growth is closely related to children’s literature, but the relevant translation has not been given due attention in the translation field.Children’s literature can help children readers to clarify their inner world and guide them to establish independent mental state. Therefore, the author chooses children’s literature for translation, hoping to play an enlightening role in exploring and expanding such a field of translation. This source text is selected from the novel The Manor House School published in 1911 by British children’s literature writer Angela Brazil(1868-1947).The novel revolves around a group of boarding girls and tells about their interesting stories during their stay in the manor house school. In order to adapt to children’s reading psychology and habits, the translator chooses the language which is easy to be accepted by the children readers.Adaptation Theory holds that language use is a process of continuous language selection to meet the internal and external needs of the language, which is essentially similar to the process of translation.Guided by the Theory of Adaptation, the author analyzes the difficult problems encountered in translation from the perspective of structural objects and contextual correlation. At the same time, the author also utilizes appropriate translation methods like free translation, amplification and domestication to adapt in linguistic context, communicative context and cultural context of the translated text.Through this translation practice, the author not only has a deeper understanding of Adaptation Theory, but also improves her own translation skills. The practice shows that under the effective guidance of Adaptation Theory, the translation has increased readability, which is more in line with the cognitive level of children readers. It is believed that this translation report can also serve as a reference for the translation of similar children’s literature.
