A Report On Escort Interpreting In 2020 Chengdu International Motor Show

The 23^rdChengdu International Motor Show,as the first A-class motor show after the outbreak of COVID-19,was held in Chengdu West International Expo City from July 24^thto August 2^nd,2020.During that,the author visited the 2020 Chengdu International Motor Show as an interpreter with four foreign clients who have been living in Chengdu and engaged in foreign language education.This thesis is written based on the author’s personal experience as an interpreter after visiting the motor show.It takes the interpreting project of the motor show as the research object helped by the Interpretive Theory,which aims to explore the interpreting process application of listening comprehension,deverbalization and reformulation.Besides,it illustrates the way of overcoming the obstacles and putting forward the corresponding interpreting skills through a case study.It’s found that the Interpretive Theory is of great significance for the practice of interpreting.The escort interpreting of the project was time-consuming,difficult and complicated in terms of its environment.Firstly,the author focused on listening comprehension.Since then,he found that different interpreting skills including generalization,paraphrase,omission and other interpreting skills can instantly process the source language,so as to achieve the purpose of reformulation in the target language after deverbalization.Supported by the theory,the application of the interpreting skills not only helps the author effectively improve the quality of interpreting but also lays a solid foundation for the implementation of other coping tactics in unexpected situations.The author hopes that this project can provide some references for the interpreters working in automobile-related industries and make greater contributions to improve the quality of its escort interpreting.
