Interpreting for official meetings on diplomatic occasion shows the national image and facilitates foreign exchanges, thus carrying great weight. As such, the necessity to do theoretical research on diplomatic interpreting is self-evident. The thesis is based on the author’s intern as a consecutive interpreter in FAO(Foreign Affairs Office) of Shaanxi Provincial People’s Government. It attempts to seek suggestion to cope with the problems the author encountered in Chinese-English interpreting with the help of theoretical guidance, and provide some references for trainee interpreters in their future practice. In the light of previous studies, the language features and principles of diplomatic interpreting are summarized. The performance of the author and the Chinese speech are transcribed to identify the possible causes of the problems repeatedly emerging in her interpreting. Under the framework of Interpretive Theory, the author explores interpreting tactics in the three procedures of interpretation: background knowledge, contextualization, and focusing on major points in comprehension procedure; logic processing and integration of information in de-verbalization procedure; restructuring of sentence and explanatory interpreting in re-expression procedure.
