The Chinese-English Consecutive Interpreting Practice Report On The Method Of Semantic Compensation Of Characteristic Statements Under The Adaptation Theory

The national quality video open course Chinese Dietetic Culture from Huazhong Agricultural University introduces the folk customs of diets across the country and analyzes the differences of dietetic culture among different people in different regions.It shows the Chinese dietetic culture with a long history and characteristic allusions by telling classic food stories and revealing traditional cooking methods.The selection of this open course for interpreting practice will help people enhance the understanding of Chinese dietetic culture.It will also help to improve the international influence of Chinese dietetic culture,and promote the spread of its culture and products in the world.Under the guidance of the Adaptation Theory,part of the open course Chinese Dietetic Culture was selected to be interpreted from Chinese to English,including the notion,the fundamental theories,dietetic methods of different people and the features of Chinese dietetic culture.In order to improve the quality of this report,this paper focuses on semantic compensation for interpretation of characteristic phrases and sentences from Chinese to English,and it can be specifically categorized into three different types: the heavy cultural loads,the loose statement structure and the subtle expression of the source language.The selection of language,the variability and the negotiability in the dynamic process of interpretation and the adaptation of the result are stressed to be applied in the semantic compensation from three levels: word,structure and culture.Specifically,the solutions include: the methods of transcription plus annotations and literal translation plus free translation on the level of words for the first question;the methods of reinvention of structure and supplementary of elements on the level of structure for the second question and the methods of domestication plus foreignization and integration plus abridges on the level of culture for the third question.The problem of semantic compensation of characteristic statements was analyzed in this paper under the guidance of Adaptation theory.Through its research and resolution,the value of Chinese dietetic culture is discovered,the historical development of Chinese food and its customs are disseminated,and the culture has been shown to the world,which will provide a reference for the similar research on the interpreting practice of the open class of Chinese dietetic culture class in the future.
