As an important part of written language,punctuation plays an important role in the understanding and expression of language.Every punctuation has its own unique function and usage.How to use punctuation correctly in writing is a problem worthy of consideration.However,through the investigation,it is found that there are a large number of errors in the use of punctuation by foreign students,and various types of errors emerge in endlessly.In order to more specifically understand the use of punctuation by foreign students,the author collected 18 graduation theses of master of international education of Chinese as a foreign language,and combined with the questionnaire,analyzed the errors of punctuation by foreign students.This paper first summarizes the previous research on punctuation,absorbs the previous research results,determines the research perspective of this paper,then briefly introduces the development process of punctuation usage,and determines the current new national standard punctuation usage as the reference standard of this paper.Through the analysis of the corpus,the author finds that senior international students also have serious punctuation errors,and the specific errors can be divided into five categories,namely: mispronoun,misaddition,omission,dislocation and miswriting.On the basis of the corpus analysis,the author uses the questionnaire to do a further survey of foreign students,and finds that there are few kinds of punctuation used by foreign students,and the types of errors are more concentrated.At the same time,the author also conducted interviews with teachers and students,comprehensively analyzed the causes of punctuation errors of international students,and put forward a series of suggestions on strengthening punctuation teaching from the aspects of teaching,teachers,teaching materials and students.The conclusion summarizes the content of this paper and points out the shortcomings.This paper aims to improve the importance of punctuation in teaching Chinese as a foreign language,improve the status quo of punctuation errors of foreign students,and provide some operable suggestions for punctuation teaching.At the same time,I hope this paper can have some reference and help for punctuation teaching.
