A Report On The E-C Translation Of Making Sense Of Children’s Drawings(Excerpts)

Taking Making Sense of Children’s Drawings(Excerpts)as the source text for E-C translation,this report aims to provide some reference for future deeper domestic researches on the translation of the children’s psychology.This is a book on children’s psychology,which belongs to an informative text.For this type of translation,Newmark ’s “Text Category Translation Theory” has been chosen as the translating theory because this theory advocates a faithful expression of the original information and logical language,thus semantic translation and communicative translation methods are applied to text translation.Under the guidance of this theory and using the methods of literature research,comparative analysis and case study,this author has drawn the following conclusions.Psychology books usually involve a lot of professional vocabulary.Therefore,to render a correct and accurate version,it is necessary to acquire certain professional knowledge and prepare a glossary of professional vocabulary and terms.At the syntactic level,this academic book boasts many long-difficult complex sentences with the purpose of being accurate and logic.The key to accurate translation is to split the long-difficult complex sentences into short and effective sentences through sequential,hysteron proteron,inclusion,split syntax,reorganization and synthetic translation strategies and methods,so as to attain the correct conversion of the passive sentences.The report has demonstrated Newmark’s “Text Category Translation Theory” : semantic translation and communicative translation,can conduct translating a psychology informative text effectively.In the meanwhile,some translation methods such as amplification,ellipsis,conversion,semantic fusion and splitting,order adjustment,conversion of the passive sentences are also employed to fulfil this translation task.
