| This is a translation report on the English-Chinese of a travel guide.The source text is excerpted from Banff National Park written by Andrew Hempstead.This book is mainly about the attractions,transportation and culture of Canada’s first national park.The third and fourth chapters of this book are translated under the guidance of Skopos theory.According to Skopos theory,translation is a cross-cultural activity with a certain purpose,and the purpose of translation determines translation methods and techniques.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,different translation methods and techniques have been adopted to deal with the difficulties at the lexical,syntactic and discourse levels.At the lexical level,annotation and paraphrase are adopted to translate proper nouns,which enables readers to better understand the culture information that existed in the source text.At the syntactic level,translation techniques such as division,restructuring and conversion are adopted to translate long sentences and passive voice sentences.At the discourse level,repetition and amplification are adopted to achieve the coherence and cohesion in discourse.The translation report consists of four chapters.The first chapter is the introduction of objective,background,significance and outline of this report.The second chapter is description of translation process.In this part,the main content and author of the source text as well as Skopos theory are introduced.In addition,the text type and features of the source text are also analyzed.In the third chapter,under the guidance of Skopos theory,different translation techniques such as amplification,division,conversion are employed to deal with these translation difficulties.In the fourth chapter,the experience learned from this translation practice and some shortcomings in translation are summarized. |
