Abstract/Summary:
With the advent of media convergence,the trans-media flow and mutual influence of cultural products gradually become normal,forming a very active trans-media narrative phenomenon of textual interaction and derivative reconstruction.The theory of "Transmedia Storytelling" has emerged as a highly inclusive issue of the times and an emerging research field in academia."Transmedia Storytelling" is not only a new narrative theory,but also a production and media practice that combines commercial interests and meaningful innovation.In recent years,the relationship between "Transmedia Storytelling" and literary classics has shown a tendency of integration and interpenetration.Through the study of contemporary transmedia storytelling system of the literary classic Journey to the West,this paper discusses how to construct a dynamic,open,and multi-dimensional story world of Journey to the West through media collaborative narration and audience participation,and theoretically summarizes and reflects on its contemporary value,new features and problems highlighted.It aims to provide a breakthrough path and perspective for the in-depth dissemination and re-canonization of literary classics in the new media era.This paper is mainly divided into five chapters:Chapter one:A theoretical overview of "Transmedia Storytelling".This chapter defines and summarizes the basic connotation,formation motivation and theoretical core of"Transmedia Storytelling".This paper argues that "Transmedia Storytelling" is a new narrative mode that attempts to organically integrate multiple types of media texts to construct a huge story world.The scientific and technological factors of media convergence,the increasingly mature audience circle and the internal drive of economic benefits are the basic motivations for the formation of cross-media narrative.In the transmedia storytelling system,the construction of the story world is the core part and the primary goal,while the collaborative narrative is the main mode of operation,and the participation of fans has become the most special part of the transmedia storytelling system,reflecting the humanistic concern.Chapter two:The context and current situation of the transmedia storytelling in Journey to the West.As the super IP of national culture,Journey to the West is the most fully developed work by trans-media.The unique cultural connotation,audience base,text features,free copyright and other factors provide unique advantages for the transmedia storytelling of IP of Journey to the West.Journey to the West has experienced the process of IP,and has been continuously developed and excavated,creating huge cultural effects and economic values.The text forms of transmedia storytelling are also very rich.Chapter three:The construction and expansion of the story world of Journey to the West.The story world of the western journey under the mode of transmedia storytelling is a rich,self-contained and multi-dimensional story field.The source text of Journey to the West lays the foundation for the integration of the story world and provides various possibilities for extension and expansion.Combining the cultural characteristics of the times and the aesthetic requirements of the public,a series of relevant story texts,on the basis of the source text,are derived through the content construction and extension breakthrough of story characters,plots and motifs,presenting a broader story space.The establishment and expansion of the story world of Journey to the West is also a dynamic and diachronic inheritance and evolution,which reflects the particularity of the construction of "Chinese stories".Chapter four:The operation mode of transmedia storytelling in Journey to the West.The grand transmedia storytelling system of Journey to the West is based on the development and interaction of various text forms such as film and television,games,animation,variety shows and offline amusement parks.Through media combination,media reference,media transformation and other collaborative narrative modes,the limitation of a single media is broken through,and the narrative characteristics and advantages of different media are brought into play.They are independent of each other,refer to each other,and are related to each other,integrating into a network narrative space centered on the story world of the westward journey.The participation of fans further strengthens the field resonance effect of collaborative narrative.Chapter five:The value reflection and enlightenment of the transmedia storytelling in Journey to the West.Under the background of the rapid development of China’s cultural industry and the strategy of "culture going abroad",The IP of Journey to the West has become an important benchmark in China’s cultural industry market,and it has also provided valuable experience for the cross-media reconstruction and cultural communication of classic literature.However,there are also problems such as the loss of classical value,the instability of story world construction,uneven cooperation and over-exploitation.Therefore,the protection of classics and cultural innovation should be taken into account.The cross-media operation mechanism of benign development should be constructed,and the participation of the public should be actively guided.The research on the transmedia storytelling of the literary classic Journey to the West reveals us that the transmedia storytelling development and dissemination of literary classics should be based on the cultural core,taking into account the literariness,aesthetics,entertainment and commerciality.Reasonable use of media technology should also be included to create cultural masterpieces with the national cultural tradition and characteristics of the times.
