The social confidence is referred to the public’s judgment and expectation of economic growth in the future. The social confidence is an important indicator in the process of social development. At present, scholars have studied the influencing factors of social confidence from the perspectives of institutional theory, cultural theory and the integration of these two theories. There are three different perspectives on the theory of the relationship between corruption and economic growth: corruption is good for growth, corruption hinders growth, and corruption has nothing to do with growth. This article attempts to explore the relationship between corruption perceptions and social confidence from three perspectives of the relationship between corruption and economic growth. This study also makes efforts to test the influencing factors of current research.Based on the analysis of data from the China Urban and Rural Survey, this study concludes that corruption perceptions negatively correlated with social confidence. This conclusion confirms the theory that corruption hinders economic growth. It shows that the cost of corruption in Chinese perception is much higher than the cost of the system. It also shows that anti-corruption is what the Chinese really want.At the same time, this study also verifies the relationship between social status, differences of intergenerational opportunities, central government trust, local government trust and social confidence. In particular, different scholars have different views on the relationship between social status and social confidence, this article support view that social status positively correlated with social confidence.Existing studies have shown that personal experiences have an impact on social confidence. This article divides the people according to whether they have corruption experience in recent years and re-tests the hypothesis of this article. The results show that in the group without corruption experience, the hypothesis of this article is still valid, and the explanation of analysis framework is more reasonable. While in the group with corruption experience, the relationship between local government trust, differences of intergenerational opportunities, and social confidence failed to pass the significance level test.At the same time, the significance level of the relationship between corruption perception, social status and social confidence has also declined. This conclusion shows that the influencing factors of social confidence are greatly affected by personal experience, which may be the reason for the divergence of some conclusions about the research on influencing factors of social confidence.
