| Known to us all,normal education has been called "the foundation of various declines" by numerous educators.Recent years have seen much interest in the exploration of the importance of normal education,but exploration and reformation are always conducted on secondary normal education.Instead,studies concerning higher normal education are still in their infancy.In the early days of the foundation of China,there remain some gaps concerning higher normal education in northern Jiangsu province.It was not until 1952 that the nationwide reform programme on higher normal education provided a crucial chance.As the pioneer of the normal education in northern Jiangsu,Sun Weimin’s educational measures and thoughts can still provide some pedagogical suggestions on contemporary normal education.Due to the lack of relevant historical data,much of Sun’s educational measures can only be found in his memoirs.Therefore,studies about Sun’s educational thoughts remain sparse.Consequently,the present study aims to investigate Sun’s educational thoughts,explore the peculiarity of them and enlighten temporary normal education,based on Sun’s social background and his educational process.Experienced revolutionary and reformation period and exposed to the advanced educational concept,Sun was endowed with various educational experience,profound artistic accomplishment and original administrative competence.The closely combination of age requirements and personal development laid a solid foundation for Sun’s educational thoughts.Moreover,Sun’s educational reform in the revolutionary period provoked the establishment of the normal universities in the beginning of the early days of our country.Paid much attention to normal education,Sun closed combined the normal education with our nation’s future and economy.Based on the requirements of the time and foreign educational experience,Sun built a life-centered curriculum,which presented the integration of practice and study,the equally importance of "technicality" and "pedagogy",the overall development of students and the pedagogical practice on primary and secondary students.Additionally,Sun also attached much importance on the competence concerning scientific research and academic exchange of the teachers and students in normal universities.Aimed to promoting the overall development of the students in social environment,Sun raised the status of "aesthetic education",which was secondary only to that of "moral education’.Compared with other contemporaneous educationists’thoughts on normal education,Sun’s thoughts meet the requirements of the time,which leads to the combination of the educational thoughts at home and abroad.At the same time,Sun’s early practice of secondary normal education has a profound influence on the establishment of the normal universities.During that time,Sun integrated education,art and revolution into one,which filled the gap in the studies about normal education.Sun’s thoughts of normal education are of great significance not only to the normal education at that time,but also to the reform of modern normal universities.Specially,much attention should be paid on normal education and educational practice,scientific research and academic exchange,and the construction of cultural environment.To some extent,Sun Weimin’s thought of normal education can be inherited well.Therefore,modern normal colleges should draw lessons from Sun Weimin’s thought of normal education and realize better reform in combination with modern reality. |
