A Study On The Influence Of WeChat Use On Parent-Child Relationship In Long-Distance Family Communication

As the smallest unit connected by blood lineage in the social system,the family has high stability.When parents and children form the reality of long-distance separation,Wechat intervenes in the communication and maintenance of parent-child relationship with an attitude that can not be ignored,and promotes people’s communication behavior to change.This study attempts to focus on the use of long-distance parent-child communication and online communication media,and explore the role of wechat use in long-distance family relations and the evolution of parent-child relations.Take Joshua Meyrowitz’s media situational theory as a theoretical support and based on the character of the research topic,this paper adopts the qualitative research method of case analysis,including semi-structured in-depth interview,participatory observation and literature research as the main way to obtain the first-hand information.Through interviews with more than 20 interviewees from 10 families,we found the interaction between wechat usage and parent-child relationship in far-distance family communication.It is found that on the level of wechat use,parents and children have different cognition and use preferences on wechat;In terms of situation decomposition and reconstruction,Wechat’s new scene makes "Sharing" itself a virtual presence and context reconstruction,and at the same time enriches the practice of family interaction in different places,it produces adaptive "middle area behavior" and "deep background behavior",which makes the virtual family interaction show the characteristics of performing and socializing;In terms of the evolution of parent-child relationship,distance and new scenes give new opportunities to the development of parent-child relationship.Parent-child relationship presents a more intimate situation under the balance and compromise of role and power,in which Wechat plays an indispensable role;In terms of the evolution of parent-child conflict,although the generation of distance provides a buffer zone for conflict,the compromise and performance of both parents and children make the two sides find a balance point for family,but covering up and compromise can not erase the fact that the conflict exists,so the parent-child relationship still exists in the hidden danger of conflict outbreak,and the relationship between the two sides actually needs to find a more appropriate way to maintain.In the age of social media,the influence of new media has penetrated into all aspects of people’s life.Family is the smallest component factor of society,and parent-child relationship is one of the most basic relationships in interpersonal communication.Paying attention to the interaction between social media,family communication,and even Interactive communication at the social level,has both academic and practical value.
