In contemporary society,Suicidal behaviour is a highlighted physical and mental health problem among college students.The first and foremost task is to identify and intervene in a timely manner with suicidal risk factors.One of the reasons that should not be overlooked is the level of individual self-disgust.Lower self-acceptance and self-evaluation can affect an individual’s physical and mental health.This study aims to explore the relationship between self-disgust and suicidal behaviour,and to introduce two variables,namely social connectedness and sense of meaning in life,to investigate whether they play a chain mediating role between self-disgust and suicidal behaviour,in order to enrich the research on self-disgust and suicidal behaviour.In this study,A total of 1338 freshmen to seniors from five universities in Wuhan were selected as the subjects.the Chinese version of Self-Disgust Scale,the Social Connectedness Scale-Revised,the Chinese Meaning in Life Questionnaire,the Suicidal Behaviors Questionnaire-Revised were used to explore the relationship between self-disgust,social connectedness,sense of life meaning,and suicidal behavior among college students,we also investigated whether social connectedness and a sense of meaning in life play a chain mediating role between self-disgust and suicidal behavior.Here are the conclusions.(1)Male students have significantly higher levels of social connectedness than females.female students have significantly higher levels of suicidal behavior than males,(2)Compared with liberal arts college students Science and engineering students have significantly higher levels of suicidal behavior.(3)There is a significant two-way correlation between self-disgust,social connectedness,meaning in life and suicidal behavior among college students.(5)Social connection is a mediating variable between self-disgust and suicidal behavior.(6)The sense of meaning in life is a mediating variable between self-disgust and suicidal behavior.(7)College students’ social connectedness and meaning in life play a chain mediating role in the relationship between self-disgust and suicidal behavior.
