Objective: To compare the spinal function characteristics and differences between righthanded table tennis players and ordinary college students. It provides reference for the daily training of table tennis players, the prevention and rehabilitation of table tennis players’ spinal injuries, and theoretical basis for coaches to guide sports training more scientifically.Method: Spinal parameters of 52 table tennis players with right hand paddles and 133 ordinary male college students were measured using 3D DIERS Spinal Measurements and Spinal Mouse.Independent sample T test was used for all spinal parameters, and curves of spinal angle changes under different spinal conditions were drawn. Results: DIERS test reveal that analysis of parameters of pelvic tilt, trunk imbalance, trunk length VP-SP,sagittal imbalance VP-DM shift distance, sagittal imbalance VP-DM shift angle, trunk inclination,VP and surface rotation are found to be significantly higher in righthanded male and female table tennis players compared to same sex ordinary college students(P<0.05).In the Spinal Mouse test,(1)the angles of the Th1/2,Th4/5,Th7/8,Th8/9,and L4/5segments of the right-handed table tennis male players in the static upright posture were significantly different from those of ordinary male college students(P <0.05).Right-handed table tennis female players’ Th3/ 4,Th9/10,Th11/12 segment angles and patella inclination angles were significantly different from ordinary female college students(P <0.05).(2)The angles of the Th1/2,Th6/7,Th9/10,Th10/11,and Th12/ L1 intervertebral angles of the righthanded ping pong male players in the most forward spine posture were significantly different from those of ordinary male college students(P <0.05);Th9/10,Th11/12,Th12/L1,L1/2,L2/3,L3/4,L4 /5,and L5/S1 segments of right-handed table tennis female players are smaller than ordinary female college students There is also a significant difference(P <0.05).(3)There is a significant difference between the intervertebral angles of the Th7/ 8,Th8/9,L2/3,and L4/5 segments of the right-handed ping-pong male athletes under weight-bearing attitudes compared with ordinary male college students(P <0.05).The intervertebral angles of female players in Th3/4,Th9/10 and L4/5 segments were smaller than those of ordinary female college students, and there were significant differences(P <0.05).(4)The length of the male back is generally longer than that of the female under different postures, while the length of the back of the right-handed racket table tennis players are generally higher than that of ordinary college students of the same gender with significant differences(P <0.05).Conclusions: The spine morphology, stability, and flexibility of the right-handed table tennis male and female players are significantly different from those of ordinary male and female college students.Females have greater lumbar lordosis, and the lumbar vertebrae and pelvic anteversion of the right-handed table tennis female players are more obvious than those of ordinary female college students. The right-handed table tennis female players have poor flexibility in the lumbar spine. The right-handed table tennis male players have the best spine stability, and the female table tennis players has slightly better spine stability than ordinary female college students.Long-term table tennis training may affect table tennis players’ spinal function.
