Subjective school status is defined as students’ subjective perception and evaluation of their relative position in school,which not only contributes to the cultivation of positive psychological quality,but also contributes to the upward mobility of social status.Especially in China,promoting individuals to get rid of the short board of status is one of the critical path to block the intergenerational transmission of poverty and seek social equity.Previous studies have mostly assess individuals’ subjective social status based on the overall family and school environment.However,school is a complex semi-social environment,and the Single measurement method may not truly give expression to their subjective social status.So how do Chinese teenagers think about their relative position in school? how to detect the subjective school status of middle school students scientifically? It is still an important issue to be solved.Through in-depth interviews with 21 middle school students,study 1 revealed the overall cognition and index composition of subjective school status.Based on the questionnaire test of672 middle school students,study 2 formed the Subjective School Status Questionnaire and examined various psychometric indicators.Study 3 conducted an empirical survey on 1137 middle school students,aiming to investigate the differences of subjective school status in gender,grade,and left-behind experience,as well as the relationship mechanism between perceived self-worth,subjective well-being and subjective school status,to further verify the subjective school status questionnaire.(1)The qualitative study found that adolescents generally form the awareness of class status differences among individuals,and the overall cognitive evaluation of the school’s relative status was in the middle position.The scale of subjective school status included 10components: relationship,character,morality,talent,athletic,image physical,influence,academic performance,classroom performance,teacher-student relationship,family factors,which were divided to four fields.(2)Using a ladder schema,the scale of subjective school status for adolescent included10 indicators,the overall structure is one-dimensional.The internal consistency reliability of the scale was respectively 0.905.In addition,content validity,structure validity,criterion correlation validity also meet the requirements of psychometrics.The scale has good reliability as well as validity.(3)Significant grade-stage differences were found in both total subjective school status scale and indicators.Only has significant gender difference in talent ability and athletic ability were found in the subjective school status.In addition,the perceived self-worth played a partial mediating role in the subjective school status and subjective well-being of adolescent,which was manifested as the suppressing effects.
