The Influence Of Family Capital On The Student Engagement Of Normal Physical Education Students: The Mediating Effect On Professional Identity

As the country attaches great importance to the development of school physical education,how to improve the quality of the training of normal sports students has become one of the hot issues.Many scholars believe that enhancing students’ professional identity and learning engagement is an important way to improve the quality of training.However,the current academic researches on professional identity and learning engagement are mostly confined to the relationship between them,or focused on the self-influencing factors,while neglecting the important influence of family factors on professional identity and learning engagement.Therefore,this paper takes family capital as the starting point to explore its relationship between vocational identity and learning input,and tries to find out the root of influencing vocational identity and learning input,which is aims at to promote educational equity.In order to explore the relationship between the three factors,this study took research tools including Family Capital Questionnaire,the Professional Identity Scale of Normal University Students and the Learning Engagement Scale.A survey contains536 questionnaires were conducted among physical education normal university students.Those students were distributed in Ministry Normal University,Provincial key Normal University and General Comprehensive University.In the survey,518 questionnaires were effectively received with an effective recovery rate of 96.6%.In this study,SPSS22.0 was used to analyze and process the data,and the following conclusions were drawn:(1)The family capital of P.E.normal students has significant differences in motivation,school type and family residence,but there is no significant difference in gender and grade.The family capital of P.E.normal students in ministry and provincial key normal universities is higher,and that of students with interest as motivation is higher.The family capital of urban students is higher than that of rural students.(2)The professional identity and study investment of physical education normal students have significant differences in grade,motivation and family residence,but there is no significant difference in gender and school category.The occupation identification and learning investment of senior grade are higher than those in other grades.Students with interest as their motivation are more engaged in their career identification and study.Students whose family residence is a city have higher vocational identity and learning investment than those in rural areas.(3)Through correlation analysis,conclusion could be drawn that the three dimensions under family capital are significantly positively correlated with career identity and learning input,among which family cultural capital presents the highest correlation coefficient,which indicating that family cultural capital has the greatest impact on career identity and learning input.The dimensions of career identity are positively correlated with learning engagement,and the correlation coefficients of career value and career efficacy are relatively higher.(4)The regression analysis shows that family capital can still positively predict career identity and learning engagement when demographic factors are controlled.It shows that the higher the family capital,the higher the career identity and learning investment.(5)Vocational identity plays a partial mediating role in the relationship between family capital and learning input,suggesting that family capital can not only directly predict learning input,but also indirectly predict learning input through career identity.After further analyzing the relationship between the three dimensions of family capital and career identity and learning input,we find that career identity plays a partial mediating role in the relationship between family economic capital and learning input.Occupational identity played a partial mediating role in the relationship between family cultural capital and learning input.Vocational identity is a complete mediator between family social capital and learning investment.Based on the research results,the following recommendations are made:(1)On the School level :(1)Fully understand those normal sports students’ family situation,and help those students with poor family economic status;(2)Implement a academic tutorial system to make up for the students families’ cultural capital deficiency;(3)Make full use of alumni resources,ie.to invite those alumni who are front-line teachers back to campus for sharing,which shall be a supplement for the students families’ social capital;(4)Schools should pay more attention to the cultivation of professional identity when setting up courses and formulating training programs.2.For the Parents :(1)Strengthen educational input and support children’s career development.(2)Pay attention to children’s learning status and maintain a healthy educational communication;(3)Give a actively guide and let children internalize physical education teaching work.3.For the Students :(1)Develop good learning habits and increase learning input;(2)Cultivate interest in sports and enhance professional identity;(3)Consult others actively and make career planning.
