Mental health literacy is an individual’s knowledge,behaviors,and attitudes about mental health and mental illness,and is closely related to mental health.Social support theory holds that social support plays an important role in individual mental health.This study introduced social support as a variable on the basis of exploring the mental health literacy and mental health of middle school students.Based on the Dual-Factor Model of Mental Health,this study surveyed 1,253 junior high school students whose come from Shanghe,Jinan with the "National Mental Health Literacy Questionnaire","Social Support Rate Scale","Middle School Student Mental Health Scale",and "Satisfaction With Life Scale".The results of this study are as follows:(1)The mental health literacy of junior high school students was significantly lower than the theoretical average,and their social support was significantly higher than the theoretical average.There are differences in mental health literacy and social support among people with different mental health conditions.(2)21.15% of students have psychological problems,and 3.7% of them have moderate psychological problems.The life satisfaction of junior high school students is at an upper-middle level.According to the Dual-Factor Model of Mental Health,57.54% of students are completely mentally healthy,21.31% are susceptible,9.50% are partially ill,and 11.65% are completely ill.(3)The mental health literacy,social support and mental health of junior high school students were significantly correlated.(4)The main effect of social support on mental health was significant.Social support played a moderating role in the relationship between mental health literacy and positive dimensions of mental health.It also played a moderating role in the relationship between the negative dimension of mental health and mental health literacy.From this,we can draw the conclusion of this study that the mental health literacy of junior high school students is at the lower middle level,and their social support is at the upper middle level.The overall mental health of junior high school students is good,but some students have psychological problems.Mental health literacy,social support and mental health are closely related.Social support has both a main-effects model and a buffer model.Therefore,in order to improve the mental health level of junior high school students,it is necessary to improve their mental health literacy.In particular,they need to improve their behavioral attitudes towards their own mental illness and mental health,as well as their behavioral attitude towards others’ mental illness and mental health.In addition,it is necessary to establish a four-in-one social support system of family,school,peers,and society to give more social support to junior high school students.Of course,it is also necessary to improve the ability of individuals to utilize social support.
