| With the rapid development of society and the fast changes in industry, people are pursuing more speed and efficiency in work, study and life.In contrast to this, people’s procrastination behaviors are also increasing.Procrastination behavior refers to the phenomenon that individuals intentionally postpone the completion of a task that must be completed when faced with it.Procrastination is a bad habit of life.Academic procrastination is a more typical procrastination behavior among the college student population.College is an important time for students to develop autonomy and independence, and academic procrastination is increasingly of concern to researchers because it not only affects students’ academic performance, but also jeopardizes their psychological health.Research has demonstrated that perfectionism and lack of self-control are important factors contributing to academic procrastination and that physical exercise can also influence academic procrastination behavior. Therefore, this study used Lay’s General Procrastination Scale(GPS),the Chinese version of the Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale, the Self-Control Scale(SCS),the Physical Activity Scale, and a measure of 548 students from a teacher training college and a sports college in Wuhan. The data were processed using SPSS analysis software to explore the mediating role of self-control between perfectionism and academic procrastination and the moderating role of physical exercise on this mediating process, which can further clarify the mechanism of the effect of perfectionism on academic procrastination. The analysis of the data led to the following conclusions.(1)College students have better self-control,low physical exercise, moderate to high academic procrastination, and senior students have significantly higher academic procrastination than other grades.(2)Positive perfectionism,self-control,and physical exercise negatively predict academic procrastination among college students.(3)Negative perfectionism positively predicted academic procrastination among college students.(4)Self-control partially mediates between positive perfectionism and academic procrastination, while it fully mediates between negative perfectionism and academic procrastination.(5)The moderating role of physical exercise in the mediating model of self-control on perfectionism and academic procrastination does not hold. |
