| The postgraduate teacher-student relationship is the core interpersonal relationship in higher education,which directly determines the successful development of teaching practice and the improvement of postgraduate cultivation quality.At the critical time when a postgraduate-education superpower in quantity is marching forward to a postgraduate-education superpower in quality,the issue of postgraduate teacher-student relationship is highly valued.The ’Code of Conduct for Graduate Tutors’ clearly states that one of the responsibilities of a tutor is to‘construct a harmonious teacher-student relationship’.To excavate the core connotation of the harmonious postgraduate teacher-student relationship and proposing the four dimensions of harmonious teacher-student relationship for postgraduates is an important premise for constructing harmonious teacher-student relationship for postgraduates.To demystify the problems of the postgraduate student-teacher relationship and analyze the reasons are the objective needs of further perfecting the postgraduate education,and also the inevitable requirement of responding to the connotative development of postgraduate education.Nel Noddings’ Care Ethics expounds the teacher-student relationship from a unique theoretical perspective and provides a theoretical reference for constructing harmonious postgraduate teacher-student relationship.The definition of the responsibility of the caregiver and the cared,the method and the evaluation of caring education in Care Ethics render a new perspective for breaking through the predicament of postgraduate teacher-student relationship,and provide the unique reference value for building a caring postgraduate teacher-student relationship.The full text is divided into six parts:Chapter Ⅰ.Introduction.First of all,this chapter expounds the basis and research significance of the topic,which is the harmonious postgraduate teacher-student relationship — based on Nel Noddings’ Care Ethics.Secondly,this chapter systematically reviews the domestic and foreign research achievements on the harmonious postgraduate teacher-student relationship and the teacher-student relationship of Nel Noddings’ Care Ethics,and develops the overall vision of academic achievements related to topic selection.Thirdly,this chapter introduces the research ideas and clarifies the specific application of the research methods,which include the literature method,the questionnaire survey method and the in-depth interview method.Finally,it points out the innovations and deficiencies of the research.Chapter Ⅱ.The basic theory of harmonious postgraduate teacher-student relationship and Care Ethics.First of all,it systematically expounds the theoretical essence of Nel Noddings’ Care Ethics.Secondly,it defines and explains the postgraduate teacher-student relationship,the concept of postgraduate harmonious teacher-student relationship,the era significance of postgraduate harmonious teacher-student relationship,and the value orientation of harmonious teacher-student relationship construction in Care Ethics.Thirdly,the four dimensions of harmonious postgraduate teacher-student relationship are clarified as follows: teachers and students coexist with ‘academic research’;teachers and students empathize with‘academic emotion’;teachers and students progress together with ‘pursuit of truth’;teachers and students symbiosis with ‘rational communication’.Finally,it analyzes the inner logic of the harmonious teacher-student relationship construction in Nel Noddings’ Care Ethics theory.Chapter Ⅲ.The current situation investigation and empirical analysis of the harmonious postgraduate teacher-student relationship.Firstly,this chapter introduces the empirical investigation of the relationship between postgraduate students and teachers from three dimensions: the distribution of survey samples,the selection of survey tools and statistical methods,and the implementation of questionnaires and in-depth interviews.Secondly,the current harmonious tendency of postgraduate teacher-student relationship presents that teachers and students have a clear understanding of the nature of ‘academic research’,the empathy of ‘academic emotion’ between teachers and students is relatively optimistic,the teachers and students possess the determination in ‘pursuing the truth’ and the tendency of‘rational communication’ between teachers and students is more obvious.Finally,the predicaments faced by the relationship between teachers and postgraduate students appears that the mission cognition of ‘Each goes his own way’ needs to be deepened,the academic emotional experience needs to be furthered,the ideological consensus to pursue truth needs to be strengthened,the relationship between teachers and students needs to be strengthened,and the mutual care experience is slightly insufficient.Chapter Ⅳ.The cause analysis of the harmonious relationship between teachers postgraduate students.Focusing on the problems existing in the relationship between postgraduate students and teachers,this chapter analyzes the root causes that affect the harmonious relationship between graduate students and teachers.Firstly,the inadequate implementation of social care responsibilities affects the teachers and students’ perception of their own mission: the online media’s evaluation of teacher-student conflicts is less than objective,the ethical concept of respecting teachers and students needs to be further promoted,and the unbalanced teacher-student ratio affects the continuity of supervisor’s care.Secondly,the tutor’s caring method is not comprehensive enough to evoke the academic emotional resonance between teachers and students: tutors have few opportunities to care for postgraduate students so that the example effect is difficult to highlight,tutors need to enrich the dialogue methods to cultivate postgraduate students’ academic feelings,and tutors face the pressure of teaching and research so that the academic practice of students is limited.Thirdly,the weak effect of postgraduate feedback on responsibility fulfillment hinders the exercise of academic will: self-cognition bias of postgraduates impairs the academic determination,insufficient psychological construction of postgraduates exaggerates the teacher-student conflict,and the multiple motivations for postgraduate study dispel the caring relationship.Finally,the lack of conditions for continuous care in schools affects the rational interaction between teachers and students: the school lacks a caring culture that promotes rational communication between teachers and students,the propagation of the‘coexistence for academics’ between teachers and students is insufficient,and the school environment for academic ability training is limited.Chapter Ⅴ.The caring dimension of constructing harmonious postgraduate teacher-student relationship.The caring strategies mainly focus on four aspects to provide reference for building a harmonious postgraduate teacher-student relationship:strengthening the cognition of the nature of harmonious teacher-student relationship,cultivating the common academic emotion of teachers and students,shaping teachers’ and students’ determination to pursue the truth,and guiding rational interaction between teachers and students.From the perspective of Nel Noddings’ Care Ethics,a harmonious social caring environment is a fundamental background for the harmonious relationship between postgraduate students and teachers;a strong campus caring atmosphere is an important reliance for the harmonious relationship;the self-care ability of graduate students is the key to strengthening the teacher-student relationship;the fulfilling of the caregiver responsibility of tutors is the priority initiatives.Only by making efforts from the teachers,students,schools,and social care environment can the postgraduate teacher-student relationship form a linkage promotion in the four dimensions of knowledge,emotion,intention,and behavior,and realize the harmonious relationship in academic recognition,academic emotion,academic will and rational behavior between supervisors and postgraduates.Conclusion.Based on the investigation and cause analysis of the harmonious relationship between postgraduate students and teachers,this paper proposes strategies to build a harmonious relationship between postgraduate students and students,and addresses a research prospect on the evaluation methods and curriculum settings of postgraduate education in Nel Noddings’ Care Ethics. |
