Secondary vocational(SV)education is an important branch of high school education in our country, which is responsible for cultivating hundreds of millions of high-quality workers. With the continuous attention to SV education in our country, the management and employment subjects of SV students have become important topics to researchers in recent years.Discussing the status quo and influencing factors of students’ job-selecting efficacy at this stage will help improve the job-selecting behavior of SV students and promote their employment level. The class provides a main place for students’ daily learning and interpersonal communication, its environment has a significant influence on each student, affecting on their job-selecting efficacy apparently. On the other side,self-esteem is the core of personality and the foundation of all behaviors. It is important to discuss the relationship among three variables: the class environment,self-esteem,and job-selecting efficacy, and propose targeted suggestions for education practice based on this,so as to promote the harmonious and healthy development of SV students in their physical and mental health, and ultimately enhance their employability. This study adopted a questionnaire survey method and selected three SV colleges: Xiangtan Biological Electromechanical School,Xiangtan County Vocational School, and Xiangtan Industry and Trade Technical Secondary School, with a total of 842 junior high school students as the subjects.Using the Career Decision Making Self-Efficacy Scale(CDMSE)complied by Betz and Taylor and further developed by Peng Yongxin et al.for college students,Jiang Guangrong’s “My Class” questionnaire, and Rosenberg’s“The Self-Esteem Scale(SES,1965),surveys were conducted on SV school students to find out the specific characteristics of these three variables, and study their relationships between each other. The research conclusions are as follows:1.Female SV students perceive the class environment better than schoolboys, and science and engineering students perceive the class environment better than students of liberal arts.2.There are significant differences in optimistic personality of SV students with respect to their gender.Boys commonly possess more confident about future events that will happen than girls.Science and engineering students have higher self-esteem than liberal arts students.3.Job-selecting efficacy of SV school students is at the upper-middle level, and there are significant differences according to gender and specialty.Basically,Boys’ job-selecting efficacy is higher than that of girls, and science and engineering students’ job-selecting efficacy is higher than that of liberal arts. There is no sign of obvious differences concerning home conditions, whether it is an only child, whether it is a student leader, and whether it has participated in social practice.4.The class environment of SV students is found out to have a significant positive correlation with self-esteem and job-selecting efficacy. Also,we found out that there is a clear positive correlation between the self-esteem of the SV students and their job-selecting efficacy.5.The self-esteem of SV students plays an intermediary role between the class environment and job-selecting efficacy. As a conclusion,we have figured out that there is a pairwise relationship between the class environment,self-esteem and job-selecting efficacy of SV students.Self-esteem is a mediating variable between the class environment and career efficacy, and it plays a part of the mediating role.
