Violin Concerto No.3 in B Minor,composed by Camille Saint-Saens,is a famous violin work of the 19th century,and has a highly significant position in the field of violin and even in the history of music.The work is reputed for its technique richness,rigorous structure,beautiful melody and romantic elements.Many famous violinists had performed it and listed it as one of the necessities at concerts.This thesis researches the first movement of the work.Firstly,it introduces the life of Saint-Sa?ns,as well as the creation background,stylistic features and musical structure of the first movement of the work.Furthermore,the thesis analyzes and compares its four different performance versions(Yehudi Menuhin,Arthur Grumiaux,Joshua Bell,Kyung Wha Chung).This part contains two sections:(1)performers and their performances are introduced and analyzed,in so doing,the stylistic features of their performances are summarized;(2)from the perspective of emotional processing,this paper makes a comparative study on the individuality and similarity of the four performers in the selection of music speed,power and timbre.The author also gives come comments on the basis of her performance experience.This in-depth comparative study of between four performance versions will increase our understanding of the work,and offer violin learners with reference.
