A Practical Report On Simultaneous Interpretation Of Keynote Speeches At The Digital Silk Road International Cooperation Conference

On August 26,2019,the Smart China Expo 2019-Digital Silk Road International Cooperation Conference was held in Chongqing.The author was assigned part of the English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting work in the keynote speech session at the conference.The author served as an English-Chinese interpreter for speakers from Serbia and Laos.Each speaker’s speech was about 10 minutes.In the process of interpretation,the author encountered many examples,and it provides abundant corpus for the research.This report has five parts,including task description,pre-preparation for interpretations,case analysis,post-evaluation and conclusion.Based on the the strategies of syntactic linearity,omission and addition,the author discusses the practical application of these strategies by case analysis and comparison.After this interpreting practice,the author concludes as follow: Firstly,the preparation work before a task is directly related to the success completion of it.Secondly,syntactic linearity is the most important strategy to complete the task of simultaneous interpretation,and the correct punctuation and cohesion can help the translator achieve syntactic linearity,reducing the ineffective energy consumption in the process and helping the audience to receive effective information.Furthermore,appropriate addition and omission can effectively reduce the comprehension barriers caused by the structural differences between Chinese and English,and make the logic of the target language clearer.
