The Positive Psychological Effect Of Patriotic Emotion And Its Neural Mechanism

Patriotism,as the link between individual and motherland,plays an important role in shaping individual values and boosting sustainable development.With the develop of patriotism education,researchers have become increasingly aware of the importance of patriotism.Historically researches have focused on definition,structure,characteristics and measurement of patriotism.Based on previous studies,this study intends to explore the positive psychological effects of patriotism and its neural mechanism through questionnaire survey and EEG experiment.This study includes three parts.Study 1 investigated the relationship between patriotism and psychological health: the mediation of social creativity and hardiness personality.On the basis of study 1,the second and third studies further explored patriotism's protective to psychological health.In order to reveal the influence of Chinese picture priming on implicit positive emotions.Study 2 adopted Visual Search Task and EEG technology to explore the differences between Chinese picture priming and non-Chinese picture priming in completing Visual Search Task.In order to explore the influence of Chinese pictures on individual's cognitive control performance,study 3 used the Cued Emotional Conflict Task and EEG technology to reveal the differences between Chinese pictures behavioral responses and ERP activities and non-Chinese pictures behavioral responses and ERP activities under different cue instructions.The results showed that:(1)The results show patriotism significantly negatively predicted BSI,social creativity and hardiness personality,both independent and serially,mediated the negative association between Patriotism and BSI.Patriotism can not only protect individual's mental health directly,but also protect individual mental health through enhancing individual's social creativity and hardiness personality.(2)Under the priming of Chinese pictures,compared with angry-neutral faces,individual paid more cognitive efforts and induced more positive amplitude in responding happy-angry faces.When responding to happy-angry faces,compared with non-Chinese picture priming,individual responded faster and induces a smaller N170 amplitude and a larger LPP amplitude under Chinese picture priming.From the point of view of neuromechanism,Chinese pictures will improve implicit positive emotions automatically by suppressing the negative amplitude of early perceptual processing and continuously increasing the positive amplitude of late perceptual processing,which proves that Chinese picture priming can automatically enhance implicit positive emotions and expand psychological resources.(3)Regardless of the degree of cognitive conflict,individuals showed better cognitive control when responding to Chinese pictures.Under actual cue,individuals react quicker and induce a larger N2 amplitude to Chinese pictures.When cognitive conflict exists,compared with Chinese pictures,individuals react slower and induces a larger N450 amplitude to non-Chinese pictures.It was proved that individuals needed more cognitive control resources to overcome the interference of cognitive conflict caused by the opposite cue instruction when they responded to non-Chinese pictures.On the contrary,Chinese pictures can mobilize more cognitive resources to suppress the conflict and showed better cognitive control ability.To sum up,patriotism could not only protect individual's mental health directly,but also can further enhance individual's mental health by enhancing social creativity and hardiness personality.In addition,patriotism can increase the implicit positive emotion during the process of emotion regulation,which can help to suppress conflicts and show better cognitive control ability.To a certain extent,the results promote the psychological research on patriotism,providing patriotism with new research perspective,theoretical basis and research results and enrich the research on the behavior and neural mechanism of patriotism.This study helps people to realize the positive psychological effects brought by patriotism more intuitively and scientifically,so that we can further enhance national self-esteem,self-confidence and pride,cultivate patriotism and make unremitting efforts to realize the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
