As an effective translation technique, lexical conversion is widely used by interpreters to overcome barriers caused by differences between source and target languages.Based on the Interpretive Theory, differences between English and Chinese, and the principle and characteristics of sight interpretation, this paper proves the necessity and operability of employing lexical conversion in English-Chinese sight interpretation.By way of analyzing the examples accumulated from the writer's sight interpretation practices, three useful lexical conversion strategies, namely, verbalization, adverbialization and adjectivization, are studied to show their respective effectiveness and operating methods. The practicality of three complementary techniques, including addition, repetition and omission,is also discussed.Hopefully, this research may offer reference for interpreters to develop a profounder understanding of sight interpretation and lexical conversion so as to produce a high-quality sight interpretation.
