John E.Romer is a representative of Analytical Marxism. He adheres to the pursuit of socialism under the banner of "egalitarianism".His research involves exploitation, distributive justice, market socialism and other fields. This paper takes Romer's view of socialism as the research goal and combs and discusses Romer's research in many fields,To grasp Romer's socialist view systematically. In this paper,Romer's view of socialism is summarized into two aspects: one is Romer's theory of socialist value pursuit, the other is Romer's theory of short-term plan to realize socialism.First of all, what is the socialism that Romer pursues.Romer believes that the goal of socialism is best considered as a kind of egalitarianism, but this kind of equality is not an equality of result, but an equality of opportunity. At the beginning,Romer did not clearly put forward the need for equality in socialist society. After analyzing the problem of exploitation,Romer concluded that the root of social inequality is the initial unequal distribution of means of production. Therefore,Romer believed that to eliminate social inequality,we need to achieve equality in property relations. However, due to the disadvantages of the welfare policy of "equality of results" in western countries,Romer realized that the equality to be achieved in socialist society is not "equality of results".Based on the analysis of the egalitarian views of Rawls and Dworkin,Romer put forward the theory that socialists need equal opportunities. The purpose of equal opportunity is to ensure the equality of the initial resources owned by citizens,so that everyone is at the same starting point in the competition. In order to make up for the lack of responsibility brought by the welfare system,Romer introduces personal responsibility into his theory of equal opportunity,so as to ensure that the socialist society has long-term development power. The second part of this paper mainly studies the path of realizing socialism proposed by Romer.Romer pointed out that the long-term goal of Exploring Socialism is the task of political philosophers, and the short-term plan of realizing socialism is to implement market socialism. In order to realize the equality of initial property distribution and maximize the realization of equal opportunities,Romer creatively put forward the market socialist model of coupon economy.Through the same amount of coupons distributed among adult citizens by the state, the initial distribution of property is equal; The accumulation and inheritance of wealth is blocked by the return of the coupons to the state after death;Through the "barometer" function of the stock market and allowing small-scale private enterprises,it not only leaves space for individual talents to play, but also creates market competition, gives enterprises a sense of oppression, and promotes the continuous development and innovation of enterprises. The last chapter analyzes Romer's view of socialism from two parts. The first part will analyze Romer's thought of equality, focusing on his theory of exploitation and market socialism.Although Romer has made rich achievements in these two fields,in the process of his research,he gave up dialectics and historical and class analysis methods,so some results deviated from the traditional Marxism. The second part will analyze Romer's "view of Chinese socialism".Romer mentioned China's socialist construction many times in his works.Because Romer failed to fully understand China's actual national conditions and did not look at China's reform and development practice dynamically, his views on China's socialist construction and development are biased.
