Studies have found that family background has a statistically significant effect on the acquisition,process,and outcome of higher education.As the main method for cultivating talents in the process of higher education,the achievement of the requirement of the general education is obviously of great importance to the quality of personnel training.The research in this area is still developing for both ordinary students and disadvantaged groups.As an important measure for cultivating highquality talents in research universities,the curriculum of general education is very important.Therefore,this paper mainly studies the influence of family background on the choice of general education curriculum types.This study expects to help students with disadvantaged family background achieve a better outcome in general education courses by studying differences in the willingness of students who choose the general education curriculum,so as to promote the realization of education fairness.The thinking of this research is:on the base of determining whether the family background has an influence on the choice of general education curriculum type,the interview explored how it happens.The specific contents mainly include the influence of the subjective and objective family background on the willingness of general course selection,and the difference of choice of general course types between students who have the different family background.The objective family background refers to the objective situation of the student family.It is measured by indicators of socioeconomic status which includes three aspects:the annual income of the student's family,the occupation of the student's parents,and the educational level of the student's parents;the subjective family background refers to the student's understanding of his objective family background which is corresponded to the objective family background indicators.It also includes three aspects:the student's perception of family financial support,the family social relationships and parent's valid opinion.The sample comes from N university undergraduate students including 347 data samples and 16 interview samples.The questionnaire surveys the students' basic family background,their willingness to choose among various types of general education courses,and the factors influencing the course selection.The interviews are used to understand the students'views on general education courses,the characteristics of their choice of behaviors,and the exploration of families' influence.The main findings of this study has the following points:(1)the students'subjective family background has a significant impact which is statistically significant on selection of the type of the general education curriculum,objective family background have no significant effect.Objective family background has an impact on selection of students' willingness throughout the subjective family background which has stronger explanatory power in the process of the higher education.(2)The students'subjective family background plays an impact on the choice of type of the general education curriculum especially on "Literature,Art and Aesthetic feeling" and "CrossCultural Communication and Interpersonal Communication".Students' willingness is affected by the building of family cultural field and students'perception of family financial support;(3)students who in a weak position of objective and subjective are more likely to choose the type of the general education course related to their own majors.The reason is that family background influence parents' cultivating styles.Students' choice present two tendencies which is autonomous motivation and controlled motivation.Motivation plays a further effect on the energy distribution of students in the learning.At the same time,students with different family background make different attributions,and the disadvantaged students pay more attention to external evaluation in the learning process.Student with weaker family backgrounds would prefer to choose the type of general education courses related to their major Under rational choice.Based on the above conclusions,this study puts forward the following Suggestions:(1)Increasing the awareness of the significance and aim of general education courses,and rectify the views of students with disadvantaged backgrounds on general education courses;(2)teachers create an independent supporting environment in general education courses to improve students' autonomous motivation;(3)promoting the transformation of students' self-evaluation by the process evaluation of teachers,improving teaching methods and optimizing students' experience;(4)institutions and community organizations regularly organize literary arts and intercultural exchange activities to create a valid field environment for students with disadvantaged backgrounds;(5)referring to the successful experience of foreign universities,Chinese University can try to explore the mechanism of classify selection which will help realize the fairness of education.
