The country urgently needs comprehensive talents with STEM literacy,but women engineers and women engaged in engineering are still far less than men.There are many studies on gender differences,but related studies mostly focus on differences in intelligence and scientific ability.This study will focus on the different responses of male and female high school students facing failure in engineering simulation practice,and may be able to find the reasons for the differences in the employment rates of male and female in engineering-related occupations.Engineering simulation practice creates a near-real engineering situation for students,because simulation can effectively achieve science-engineering integration.And an important cognitive practice for engineers is to treat failure as part of the learning experience.The failures that occur in students when engineering simulation is performed in a real situation have more research value.The purpose of this study was to investigate the behavioral characteristics of high school students' failures in chemical engineering simulations,and whether there are gender differences in the face of failures of high school students of different genders.The basic research method of this study is the case study method.In the theoretical research part,first we conduct literature research and then sort out related literature,at last determine core concepts.Combined with the literature and data,an analysis framework for the failure behavior of high school students in the practice of chemical engineering simulation was established on the basis of the principles of grounded theory.In the empirical research steps,the course design based on the treatment of printing and dyeing wastewater was collected to analyze relevant data and use the failure behavior The framework performs data analysis and coding,and finally draws conclusions.The results of this study show that the failures of high school students in chemical engineering simulation practice are mostly the same types of failures,manifested as group,low-risk,objectively evaluated,and unintentional failures.There are certain gender differences in failed behaviors,and they are significantly different in all aspects of failed behaviors.In Chapter I,"Proposal of Questions",it mainly discusses the determination of the subject of this research,introduces the existing related research at home and abroad and its results,so as to determine the research questions and plans.In Chapter 2,the literature review,the first step is to define the core concepts of engineering,simulation,failure,and gender differences based on the relevant literature;the second is to form the theoretical framework of this research based on the existing literature;On the basis of literature research,an empirical research plan is proposed.In the design of the third chapter,based on the theoretical basis of case studies,after designing chemical engineering simulation courses,the research subjects were selected and empirical research activities were started to collect data.After the data is transcribed,the data is statistically analyzed in a framework of failed behaviors based on grounded theory.In the results of the fourth chapter,the data is coded,counted,and analyzed based on the failure behavior,the cause of failure,and the response to failure to illustrate the failure paradigm of high school students in engineering simulation practice.In chapter five,the reflections and prospects of the research,expounded some shortcomings of this research and need to be improved,and put forward future research directions based on this.
