In the new era,it is the basic requirement and task of history teaching in middle schools to cultivate the core quality of history subject,to cultivate cultural confidence,to implement and strengthen the education of national unity as well as patriotism,and to guide students to finally realize the goal of cultivating morality.This article hopes to design and implement character-centered thematic instruction,to guide middle school students to pay more attention to the "blood and flesh" historical figures who are closely related to historical events and historical phenomena.Not only pay attention to their life experiences and thoughts,but also explore their inner activities and spiritual world,dig into their noble moral qualities and spiritual pursuits,so as to achieve the educational goals of "someone in the eyes" and "someone in the heart".History is inseparable from figures,who are the important contents and resources of history education and teaching.Character-centered history thematic instruction is an effective way to improve history teaching efficiency and cultivate morality,as well as an important way to implement the core quality of history.On the contrary,the core quality of history is also the pursuit of character-centered history thematic instruction.However,the current situation of history teaching in middle schools generally pays more attention to things than people and the problems of the lack of a detailed and complete description of historical figures as well as the lack of attention to their inner activities and human characteristics.On the one hand,these reveal the necessity of character-centered history thematic instruction;on the other hand,these also objectively reveal the limitations of character-centered history thematic instruction.Although this teaching method has its limitations,the author still hopes to guide students to change from caring about the cold "things" to caring about the warm "people" and their humanity,to feel the vivid history,and then to realize the educational purpose of moral education.For this reason,the author puts forward the strategy of character-centered history thematic instruction from three aspects: classroom teaching,extracurricular activities and school-based curriculum.The thematic classroom teaching should be based on historical figure: first,study the curriculum standards and select characters;second,let people to guide things and refine the theme;third,let things to guide people and contact the theme;fourth,expand historical materials and serve the theme;fifth,sublimate the theme with human spirit.History extracurricular activities should see history through people: first,investigate local historical figures;second,visit historical figures memorial hall;third,organize exhibitions on historical figures.The development of school-based curriculum should attract students with characters: actively develop school-based curriculum on historical figures,pay attention to inheriting Chinese excellent traditional culture,and try the way of "school-museum cooperation".In addition,we should select and refine the themes of historical figures according to the principles of authenticity,typicality,diversity and positivity,also design and implement character-centered history thematic instruction according to the specific course content.Based on the above strategies and principles,the author combined her own practice to respectively select a lesson of “Opium War” in the high school history and a lesson of “French revolution and Napoleon Empire” to analyze thematic instruction cases.
