As a carrier of Chinese culture,international Chinese textbooks,to some extent,reflect the cultural norms recognized by Chinese society,and serve as a bridge connecting school life and social reality.As one of the main ways for students to learn and acquire knowledge,textbooks also have a certain influence on students' gender concepts.Adolescent learners are at an important stage of realizing gender differences and the formation of gender roles,with their sexual maturity,the influence will be more profound.However,there are still some problems in the current teaching materials,such as the tendency of the singleness of gender center,the misunderstanding of gender values,and the rigid character of gender role.How to permeate the education of gender equality into the teaching materials is an important topic in the field of education research.Based on the theory of social gender,this paper combines quantitative analysis with multimodal discourse analysis,and makes a comparative analysis of gender role building in Happy Chinese and Learn Chinese with Me.Firstly,the frequency of different gender roles is obtained by exhaustive statistics.Secondly,through the text role identity,activities and background,and personality characteristics Finally,according to Kress and Van Leeuwen's Visual Grammar theory,the paper analyzes the image mode,and gets the shaping of gender roles in the two textbooks.It is found that there are differences in the gender roles of the two international Chinese textbooks for teenagers.The gender roles in the textbooks and illustrations are unbalanced,and there is a gender stereotype of "male focus on the outside while female focus on the inside".In addition,compared with male roles,the female roles in the textbooks are more focused on the family field,and they are more traditional in the society.No matter in the family field as a relative,or in the social field as a professional image,the male role occupies a relatively dominant position.In addition,there are stereotypes in the modal gender representation of illustrations in textbooks.On this basis,this paper analyzes the causes of the problem of gender role shaping in textbooks,and gives specific thinking and suggestions.
