Howard Gardner,an American psychologist and educator put forward the theory of multiple intelligences in the 1980 s.Since the theory was put forward,it has been widely spread around the world and extensively applied in teaching and research.Multiple intelligences play a positive role in the overall development of students,so this study tries to apply the theory of multiple intelligences in high school basketball teaching and attempts to explore the changes in students' interest in sports learning, their mastery of basketball skills and their intellectual development in the teaching experiment. This paper uses the method of literature, questionnaire, teaching experiment and mathematical statistics, taking the school sports teaching as the core, building basketball teaching model of multiple intelligences, and then randomly selects Wu Ming middle school grade two administrative classes by cluster sampling method, which including 110 students as subjects for teaching experiment research. And next on the basis of above, the two classes are divided into two groups, namely experimental group and control group. The experimental group adopts the basketball teaching method based on the theory of multiple intelligences while the control group uses the traditional basketball teaching method. Finally, after the experiment, this paper analyses the changes on mastery and application of basketball skills, interest in sports learning and development of multiple intelligences of students in the two groups so as to explore whether the multiple intelligences theory applied in high school sports basketball teaching has advantages or not.So in the end the main conclusions of this study are as follows:1.In terms of learning interest in physical education: the teaching of this study has a relatively obvious effect on the improvement of students' learning interest in physical education.2.In the aspect of basketball skills: the teaching of this study possesses a comparatively apparent effect on the improvement of students' basketball skills.3.In the aspect of intelligence: the teaching of this study can effectively develop students' linguistic intelligence,logic-mathematical intelligence, body kinesthetic intelligence and interpersonal intelligence.
