As a special group, volunteers of the West Project are committed to serving grass-roots education, medical treatment, agriculture and grass-roots social governance in the western region.Previous studies on volunteers of the West Project mainly focused on the system, organization and management of the West Project, but paid less attention to the actions of the participants themselves. This master's thesis takes the Shanghai Guizhou Team in 2019 as an example, and on the basis of understanding the characteristics of the group, with the help of anthropological discipline methods such as participatory observation and in-depth interview, discusses the "localized identity" of the Shanghai Guizhou Team.Through the study,it is found that the volunteers of Shanghai guizhou team have different motives to declare and participate in the western project. They believe that "growth needs experience","life needs value",and more firmly believe that "development needs a platform".From the perspective of the volunteer service process, the volunteers felt lost and alienated at the beginning, and had been "confused" for a time. However, fortunately is the ambitious intellectual youth, their self-adjustment ability is strong. With the deepening of volunteer service, especially under the coordination and encouragement of the sending unit--Shanghai Municipal Party Committee,as well as the recognition and acceptance of the serving unit, volunteers begin to blend into the local community from frustration, alienation and discomfort, identify with volunteer service and self-identity,and finally realize the "local identity".Of course, the above "local identity" is not created by the volunteers' spirit of volunteerism, but because the volunteers themselves blend into it.It is not only the local expectation, acceptance and recognition of the Shanghai Team, but also the coordination and dedication of the Shanghai Team to Guizhou Team,as well as the feelings of realizing the self-value of the young volunteers.Through volunteer service, volunteers take pride in their identity and volunteer experience, gain growth in the process, enrich their emotions, and commemorate their youth. This master's thesis consists of six parts. The introduction part mainly introduces the research origin, relevant literature review, research methods, definition of relevant concepts and research value and significance. The first chapter describes the "2019Shanghai Guizhou Team" and its different motivations for volunteering. The second chapter introduces the volunteers' process from "confusion" at the beginning of service to gradual self-adaptation.The third chapter presents the reasons for volunteers' self-adaptation and the process of being recognized. The encouragement and coordination of dispatching places and the acceptance and recognition of service places contribute to the effective integration of volunteers. The fourth chapter discusses the value identification of volunteers, including the value identification of volunteer service spirit and the identification of the western planning system. The conclusion discusses the interaction between concept and practice, and reflects on some problems of value identification of contemporary youth.
